Riviera has taken on a record 41 new apprentices this year, building on top of the 33 it added to its luxury motor yacht-building business last year as its order book swells to a new high.
The new recruits join Riviera’s 600-strong Gold Coast-based workforce, and bring the number of apprentices employed in the business to 89.
Riviera safety and training manager Adam Houlahan said the business was recruiting more apprentices to help it meet the largest number of future orders for its luxury motor yachts in the company’s history.

“The apprentice program at Riviera is an important part of our commitment to developing the master craftsmen and women of the future,” Houlahan said.
“Each of our apprentices receives intensive training to create world-class luxury motor yachts.”
Riviera said its recruitment program, which will benefit the company in later years as the apprentices honed their skills, also had a good retention rate once the apprenticeships were completed.
More than 300 apprentices have graduated since the program was started more than 30 years ago, with many still employed at Riviera. The company has a good working relationship with schools across the south-east Queensland region and northern NSW.

The apprentices also take part in skills training that teaches them about leadership, communication, relationships and personal finance.
“Developing skills for the future plays an important role in not only Riviera’s manufacturing growth, but more broadly in the future of the Australian-based marine industry,” Riviera owner Rodney Longhurst said.
“We have a proud history of training and enhancing the skills of our team and that has allowed us to create luxury motor yachts that are recognised the world over for their quality, luxury and engineering excellence.”
Riviera’s range of luxury motor yachts spans 21 models across the SUV, Open Flybridge, Enclosed Flybridge, Sport Yacht and Sports Motor Yacht collections.
