MasterCraft has unveiled a new wake sport system named SurfStar that allows riders to pick the size and intensity of a wave via a simple sliding scale.
The system relies on a more user-friendly interface featuring software that can alter the boat’s configuration to make “quick and precise adjustments to the waves for perfect wake surfing and wakeboarding customisation”.
Meanwhile, new military-grade actuators – each now producing 1.3 tonnes of lift – move the wake-generating surfaces and use millimetre-precise magnetic position sensors to help the MasterCraft boat deliver “clean, consistent riding faces at any setting”.
“And with the integrated wave graphic, you'll clearly see how each setting change will affect the wave: 1 being a longer and more mellow wake, 7 being a steeper and taller wake,” it said.
MasterCraft, which lays claim to creating the world’s first wake-shaping boat in 2009, said the new system was based on almost 15 years of customer feedback on how users wanted SurfStar to work.
SurfStar represents MasterCraft’s third-generation wake system.
However, the real star of SurfStar is “Rapid Surf”, a new interface that allows the boat’s driver to set the wake using a sliding scale displayed on the console’s multifunction display; slide a virtual toggle down to “1” for mild, and up to “7” for wild.
Users can also choose which side of the boat to push the wake using animated graphics that make the process more intuitive.
There’s also an override that allows users to individually customise a wake, with full control over the boat’s speed, ballast and the position of the system’s wake-generating plates.
SurfStar will be fitted to MasterCraft’s XT, X and XStar models.
