Italian luxury motor yacht maker Azimut has launched the Seadeck 6, the first of a new line of models designed to minimise their carbon footprint from the day the keel is first laid.
The 17.5-metre sedan model is Azimut taking charge of its future. It features more than two decades of the group’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact to create what it says is the start of “the most efficient and sustainable yachts ever produced by Azimut”.
The Azimut Seadeck 6 features a superstructure with 40 per cent of its surface made from carbonfibre to minimise weight as much as possible.
That sits on top of an all-new hull designed to maximise efficiency at cruising speeds. It is wider at the stern and more streamlined at the bow to help the Azimut Seadeck 6 hydroplane at a lower speed, reducing drag, and making it more efficient across a wider range of speeds.
Azimut has included more recyclable materials in the Azimut Seadeck 6’s design, with 30 percent of the motor yacht’s skeleton made from 15,000 PET plastic drink containers replacing the traditionally sourced PVC used to make it.
The Azimut Seadeck 6 has embraced the idea of drop-down coamings in the aft cockpit to create what it calls the Fun Island, a large, comfortable, open space with forward- or aft-facing lounges, and a large cockpit-level swim deck that falls to create a set of steps descending to a water-level platform.
Indoors, the Azimut Seadeck 6 features space. The saloon features deep windows and an uncluttered layout, with recycled materials featured throughout.
The saloon’s roof uses a brise soleil – an architectural feature that deflects sunlight – to keep the interior cool as well as create patterns of light and shade.
Below decks are accommodations for up to six people, with space also set aside for crew.
Another innovation rolling out in the Azimut Seadeck 6 is the Mild Hybrid Zero Emission Hotel Mode, a 42kWh lithium-ion battery system connected to one of the Azimut’s three engines that can power the boat for up to four hours during the day, or up to 8 hours at night.
The design is powered using either three 380hp Volvo Penta IPS 500 or three 480hp Volvo Penta IPS 650 pod drives to give the Azimut Sundeck 6 a top speed of around 33.0 knots, with a comfortable cruising speed of around 24.0 knots.
The Azimut Sundeck 6, shown for the first time at the 2024 Venice Boat Show, will be joined in September by the Seadeck 7.
