Whittley’s powerful new Pulse operating systems

A complete new single screen and eKey digital operating system for Whittley trailerboats

Touted as a big step forward for the local trailerboat industry, Whittley’s new Pulse system is a fully integrated single touch-screen approach to operating your boat’s onboard systems, electronics, AV equipment and more from a central control panel.

The benefits of the touchscreen digital system include greater connectivity with third party electronics, improved operating efficiency, ready access to your engine data, keyless operation, mobility due to phone and iPad app control, and all the wonderful computing powers that are inherent with digital switching today.

Whittley says the new onboard operating system, which is an optional upgrade on its boats, was subjected to thorough testing before being released to market as the Pulse product. The name signifies how the operating system is the heartbeat of your new Whittley boat.

The new Pulse system was one of the six big trailerboat and tech trends at Whittley that we reported about after our factory tour in early 2017.

ONE BIG DASH DISPLAY
Previously the preserve of high-end luxury cruisers, the electronic switching in the Pulse system utilises sophisticated digital gear from respected brands such as Garmin, Fusion, C-Zone and Volvo Penta.

The Pulse system is connected to a 7in, 12in or 16in Garmin or Volvo Penta glass cockpit display, which provides a clear visual and push-button operation of all your boat’s electronics, engine data and systems without the clutter of gauges.

All the Volvo Penta engine data including fuel flow and all other key engine functions is displayed digitally on the Garmin or Volvo Penta glass cockpit screens, removing the need for traditional analogue gauges.

Along with improving ease of operation, the Pulse system also aids navigation on Whittley’s trailerable Cruisers, while leading to improved fish-finding ability on the Sea Legend bluewater models.

As we reported on after attending Volvo Penta’s new product release event in Sweden, the Volvo side of the system offers car-like integration and connectivity.

THE eKEY
Starting your Whittley is now operated by the one waterproof ‘eKey’, which means no more lugging round big bundles of keys.

The eKey runs the battery management system and features battery protection and automatic start aid, borrowing energy from the auxiliary battery to ensure there is always cranking power.

"It is such a huge step forward. The Whittley Pulse is the heartbeat of our boats, bringing together all the key features into one key and one screen," says Steven Whittley, Managing and Design Director at the Whittley Marine Group.

"You’re only ever two clicks away from where you need to be to control all the functions of your boat," he adds.

TABLET CONTROL
Fusion-Link provides on screen and Bluetooth AV operation, as does the Garmin Helm app that let’s you controls all the boat’s functions on an iPhone or iPad/tablet, thereby creating a second mobile screen.

This means you can be down the back working the bait board or cooking your catch and still have a visual of the what’s under the boat, operate the lighting and switching from the palm of your hand.

"Keyless technology is in our home and in our car — and at last it’s available in the Whittley range of vessels. This is a first for the local trailerboat industry and we are proud to work with our key suppliers to bring this technology into our boats for the consumer to have an unrivalled, easy boating experience," Whittley adds.

"The Whittley Pulse System really is the heartbeat of your boat. I encourage all potential customers to explore the benefits of this new option when looking at purchasing a new Whittley," says Steven.

The full pulse system on a standard 7in screen costs $5000 factory fitted. More information on the Whittley Pulse System at Whittley Marine Group.
