Designed to maximise fishing success, the new Boston Whaler 240 Dauntless Pro is an all-new inshore, offshore and anywhere-in-between sportfisher that seemingly knows no bounds.
Pitched at the dedicated bay-fishing market, the highly spec’d new model could be just the weapon you need for fishing, say, Weipa, Fraser Island, the big bays and estuaries down south, and pretty much everywhere that sight fishing is on the cards.
The big flat platform with 16 degrees of deadrise is super stable and built for casting lures, fly or pitching baits. The shallow draft of 36cm means you can get into the skinniest creeks and run-offs. Of course, storage for tackle and gear and seating is just huge.
PITCHED AT PROS
Boston Whaler says it has used its famous unsinkable foam-filled hull with an innovative, purpose-driven deck to create a hardcore 24ft centre console bay boat that meets the needs of serious anglers without sacrificing comfort or style.
"The 240 Dauntless Pro is designed for the serious angler, with features and options that serve the technical bay boat market," said Jeff Vaughn, Boston Whaler's vice president of sales, marketing and customer service.
"It's a tremendous fishing platform with all the strengths quintessential to a Whaler: superior ride quality, ease of operation, durability and comfort."
PRO ANGLER TOWER
A standout feature of the 240 Dauntless Pro is the new Pro Angler's Tower, a second helm station atop the centre console below.
The tower’s raised vantage point provides uninterrupted, long-distance visibility when searching for baitfish, scoping the flats for shadows of feeding fish, and working schools of predators.
The tower is easily accessible through a dedicated portside access ladder. Whaler makes the point that, unlike with some competitors' models, there's no need to step precariously on the console to reach its trick tower.
The tower's intuitive helm station features a cushioned leaning post and state-of-the-art Raymarine electronics, just like the cockpit helm station, for confident command in any position.
MORE FISHING FEATURES
For catching more fish, the Dauntless features a single-level stern casting deck with a convenient centre livewell and storage.
The cockpit is also cushioned, with a multi-purpose leaning post with flip-up bolsters. This provides ergonomic support for the captain while driving, then serves as a go-to spot for fighting fish.
Four rod holders on the leaning post keep rods at hand, while a dedicated cooler tucked in below keeps the pathway clear. Additional options of interest to bay fishers include a power pole, trolling motor and jack plate.
ALTER EGO
As well-equipped as it is for serious fishing, the 240 Dauntless Pro sacrifices nothing in terms of comfort or enjoyment, Whaler says.
The crew can kick back and relax in the spacious bow area, where plush seats with flip-up backrests, a removable bow cushion and an optional sunshade make this a great place to socialise.
Aft plug-in seating drops into the transom to provide additional versatility, and a standard head in the console increases comfort during long days.
On the hardtop, a glass windshield and optional side curtains lend extra protection against the elements.
POWER MATCH
Performance is said to be another area in which the Dauntless Pro shines: Boston Whaler's impeccable V-hull design works in tandem with a supercharged Mercury Verado engine up to 350hp.
The result is strong, efficient power; incredibly smooth, predictable handling; and a soft, safe, dry ride, Whaler enthuses.
"The 240 Dauntless Pro is the total package," said Vaughn. "We're thrilled to provide anglers with an exciting new platform to help empower fishing success."
The Boston Whaler imported in Australia is Queensland Marine Centre. Sales Executive Brad Roberts says there has been strong demand for the Dauntless and increasing awareness around bay-style sportfishers.
"We’ve had some good runs with the Dauntless models, we’ve got a 240 in stock with a lot of options, single 350hp Verado, T-top, electronics, alloy trailer and more for about $185k," he says,
"They’re 100 per cent multipurpose boats. You can still do serious offshore fishing, they’re great casting platforms, and you can carry a family in comfort on the weekend."
