Every once in a while you come across a boat listed on boatsales and do a double take. That’s certainly the case with this, a 2022 Rafnar 1100 Leisure.
Rafnar, a fairly new brand that launched its first boat in 2015, is a boatmaker based in Iceland and specialises in rescue and tactical craft capable of taking on a mix of conditions in the North Sea.
However, it also has a line of boats it tags as “Leisure”, with this, the 11.15-metre Rafnar 1100 Leisure standing as the second-largest model in its line-up.
What this is, then, is a virtually unsinkable boat capable of heading out in the worst conditions. It has inbuilt safety features, too, such as the ability to self-right in the event of a capsize.
The boat is made from a fibreglass foam core sandwich hull ringed in a Hypalon inflatable tube with a swept-down sheer line, making it look like a rigid inflatable hulled boat on steroids.
It is rated for either twin 450hp outboard engines, or up to three 350hp outboard engines to give a total of 1050hp. This boat for sale is packing triple 300hp Mercury Verados, which means this particular Rafnar 1100 Leisure should come close to hitting the maximum 50-knot speed rating.
It’s how it will handle the speed that makes the Rafnar special because it uses something called the OK hull, developed by Rafnar in 2021 with the aim of making its boats ride as smoothly as possible in the roughest conditions.
Its unique staggered design reduces the effect of slamming, where the hull hits the water as it skips across the surface, by around 85 per cent compared with conventional hull designs. It is also designed to minimise sliding and hooking while turning at speed.
This Sydney-based boat is fitted with a bow lounge forward ahead of a fully enclosed, watertight wheelhouse. Aft, a row of forward-facing seats lines the transom wall, while the rooftop includes a rack that could be used to transport kayaks or stand-up paddleboards.
Inside the fully lined wheelhouse are four suspension seats for the skipper and three passengers. The helm is surrounded by a full suite of Raymarine electronics including Axiom 9PRO and 16PRO multifunction touchscreens, a Raymarine Quantum radar system, and VHF radio.
But here’s the real surprise. This boat is listed on boatsales for just $649,000 sail-away. That’s a heck of a lot of boat, comfort and performance for the money. Fast, comfortable and with a belly full of fuel, it’s a boat that will take you places no matter what the weather does.
