Your invitation to a barbecue afloat
Marine Rescue Australia Day barbecue afloat at the Tinnie MusterMarine Rescue NSW has encouraged boaters taking in the Australia Day action on Sydney Harbour on Sunday (January 26) to have a safe, fun and memorable day on the water.
Volunteers from Marine Rescue Port Jackson will be on board the barbecue barge throughout the afternoon’s entertainment in Athol Bay, including the inaugural Tinnie Muster.
In the evening, the volunteers will head over to Cockle Bay to provide a control vessel for the spectacular Tall Ships Parade.
Boaters should get in early to grab a good spot in Athol Bay for the Tinnie Muster -- and make sure they grab a snag from the Marine Rescue volunteers.
The crew will be on board the barbecue barge from 1pm with a small mountain of sausages available in exchange for a gold coin donation. The barbecue runs until 5pm or whenever the last sausage goes, whichever comes first.
Boaters can also try their luck in the Marine Rescue raffle. The first prize is a Quintrex 390 Explorer family runabout, 9.9hp Mercury 4-stroke outboard motor, registered Quintrex trailer and safety package, worth almost $9000.
Boats in the Annual Australia Day Harbour Parade will start to arrive in Athol Bay from 2pm for the announcement of the winners.
The inaugural Tinnie Challenge, testing participants’ manoeuvring skills, rope handling, sausage eating and joke telling abilities, runs from 2.15pm to 3pm.
At 3.30pm Taylor Henderson takes over the stage on the Audio Barge, followed at 4.15pm by Telstra Road to Discovery finalists and a DJ to take the entertainment through to 6.30pm, when the barge heads to White Bay to keep the party going through the night.
