Yellowfin YF-62 Rear Console 2025 Review

A middle-sized member of the rear console family, and ideally suited to inshore and offshore work

The Yellowfin YF-62RC is a tough new coastal fishing boat with a heavy-duty plate alloy hull and a versatile, open-deck interior layout. One of four new rear console models in the Yellowfin fishing boat line-up, the YF-62RC is ideal for a mix of inshore bass/barra/bream fishing and offshore sport fishing.

Overview

Yellowfin has launched a new series of rear console open fishing boats. The new models complement the equally new/upgraded centre console boats which are likewise available in 5.8m, 6.2m, 6.6m and 7.0m hull sizes.

The two new open boat line-ups share the same deep vee plate alloy hulls but have slightly different layouts.

Where the centre console boats have a double-wide console helm station, the rear console boats have a relatively narrow, single-person helm console situated further aft in the boat.

The rear console models also have a larger, higher front-casting deck.

The YF-62 is one of the middle-sized rear console Yellowfins, ideally suited to coastal trailer boat fishing.

Our test boat was equipped with the Yellowfin Fishing Edition package and paired with the maximum power Mercury 175hp V6 four-stroke outboard.

Price and equipment

The Yellowfin YF-62RC is priced from $105,239 for a white painted boat rigged with a Mercury 150hp extra-longshaft outboard engine featuring hydraulic steering, and riding on a Yellowfin tandem axle aluminium trailer.

For this price you might fear that Yellowfin has skimped on features – but that’s not so. Among the key inclusions are the raised front casting platform with dual hatches and hinged front opening, treadplate alloy flooring throughout, port side transom live bait tank, an elevated twin battery box, scupper cockpit self-draining system, transom door, six rod holders, five cup holders, dive ladder, three relocatable pedestal chairs, and more.

Also included in the base price is an electric trolling motor mount and a Garmin GPSMap 953xsv multi-function display.

The YF-62RC is available with a large range of accessories that can be purchased individually. Alternatively, you can tick the box for the Fishing Edition package which comes with unique exterior striping along with a range of accessories/extras grouped together.

Our test boat came with the Fishing Edition package which included:

• Burley bucket
• Deck wash
• Exclusive YF Fishing Edition tilt-adjust steering wheel
• Exploding Fish rotating rod holders x 6
• Hand wash
• VHF GX750B marine radio
• Side pocket rod racks – black
• Dark grey U-Dek trim throughout
• Dark grey U-Dek cockpit flooring
• Underwater lighting
• Yellowfin split-lid 75L cooler
• YF Super Bag 150 cooler (Icey-Tek)
• YF deluxe bait fishing station
• YF side coaming padded bolsters

Additional factory options included the coloured hull topsides, Garmin GPSMap 8412xsv display, Airmar TM185M 1kw transducer, electric trolling motor mount, Savwinch electric drum winch, Fusion sound system, wireless phone charger, and Zipwake trim tabs.

Paired with a larger Mercury 175hp four-stroke outboard and a deluxe/upgraded Yellowfin tandem axle trailer, our Fishing Edition test boat package is priced at $145,126.

Design and layout

The rear console Yellowfins are designed for anglers who fish mainly from the bow of the boat – casting/fishing from the front deck.

The bow deck is elevated almost up to the height of the gunnels for clear sight lines, which means lures and flies can be cast out with reduced risk of entangling on deck fixtures like bollards, bow rollers, rails, etc.

Having such a high front deck also provides for a massive storage space beneath it.

In the YF-62RC there is space within the giant storage compartment (with gas-strut supported hatch lid) for the optional Icey-Tek split-lit 75L capacity cooler, as well as safety gear, deck lines, fenders, etc.

The front section of the sub-deck storage compartment can also be accessed from a deck hatch up near the large, open anchor well that was optioned with an electric drum winch.

From the bow deck there is a 480mm step/drop down to the main cockpit floor – which extends 2.55m aft to the transom wall.

The rear cockpit is deep, high-sided with 675mm of freeboard alongside the helm console, 700mm of freeboard back at the transom.

The deep interior cockpit allows anglers to fish safely, securely from the boat in rough water.

At the helm

The YF-62RC has a single-person wide helm console topped by a tall acrylic windscreen with grab rail alloy frame and a full-width fascia panel to cater for a single large screen display.

There’s also space for the tilt-adjust steering wheel, binnacle throttle and switch panel.

The hinged, folding console (for garaging) also has a storage shelf and skipper footrest.

The YF-62RC comes with three identical pedestal helm chairs, one of which slots into position in front of the helm.

Each chair swivels and slides fore and aft for adjustment – and can be relocated to any of the five floor-sockets scattered about the boat (including one on the raised deck).

Fishing features

With or without the Fishing Edition package, the YF-62RC is fishing-friendly, thanks to the large front deck, deep aft cockpit, extra-wide (335mm) side decks and elevated side storage pockets.

Standout features though include the port side live bait tank with viewing window, the optional bait station with bait board, pull-out shelving/tackle trays and rod rack – as well as the Exploding Fish rotating rod holders.

Other notable features include the welded stern cleats, cup holders, elevated dual-battery storage compartment, starboard side transom step and door, folding aft ladder, plastic burley bucket, and the plastic mesh scupper guards which prevent scraps of bait and muck from draining into the sump/water catchment area beneath the transom.

On the water

The Yellowfin YF-62RC has a 20-degree deadrise plate alloy hull that is well mannered, smooth riding and stable.

Ride comfort is aided by the heavy-duty thickness of the hull bottom at 5mm, transom at 6mm, and smooth topsides at 4mm.

At the bow there is a single strake on each side of the hull bottom which provides lift in a following sea while also pushing water away from the boat to keep the interior dry.

The YF-62RC is easy to drive, responsive to both trim and throttle application.

The Yellowfin handles well through the corners too, with just the right amount of hull and propeller slip coming on at corner exit.

The YF-62RC is rated for a single extra-longshaft outboard between 150 and 175hp. Our test boat was rigged with the higher power option in the form of Mercury 175hp. This under-stressed V6 four-stroke engine delivers oodles of power to accelerate the Yellowfin through to a top speed of 35.4 knots (65.5 km/h) at 5000rpm.

That’s not super-quick, but more power would be completely unnecessary.

Overall, the handling and performance is excellent.

Verdict

The new Yellowfin YF-62 Rear Console is an excellent open boat all-rounder, equally suited to chasing bass and barra inshore as mackerel and marlin offshore.

And with package prices starting at just over $100K, the YF-62RC is excellent value for money.

Adding the Fishing Edition pack and other accessories does ramp up the price, but these options convert a basic boat into a full-featured sport fishing weapon.
