With a background in professional powerboat racing, Yellowfin's chief boat tester Cliff Antees is responsible for putting all the Yellowfin models through their paces.
Testing with a 150hp Mercury Optimax engine and a 15.5x17 Mirage Plus Propeller, the 5700CC delivered an impressive top speed of 76.2km/h at 5600rpm.
“Equivalent to roughly 42kt, this is plenty of top speed in a 5.7m boat. And this hull doesn’t require maximum horsepower to deliver results, it would still pleasantly surprise with a 135hp, or even 115hp,” said Cliff.
Yellowfin has made a lasting impression with its exceptionally dry, smooth and stable hull boasting a 20-degree deadrise, sharp bow entry and gull-wing design.
This performance hull is not only designed to be dry, smooth and stable, it is also designed to deliver impressive results on fuel efficiency.
At a comfortable cruising speed of 40km/h at 3000rpm the 5700CC is consuming 14.4 litres of fuel per hour. Combined with a 160lt fuel tank, the 5700CC delivers ample time for a fishing trip.
“At 14.4 litres per hour, that’s comparable with four-stroke fuel economy in the same horsepower range,” said Cliff.
The Yellowfin range has been built with strength in mind and features a self-draining tread-plate floor and fully-welded longitudinal and latitudinal sub frame rib structure.
The Yellowfin range is constructed from 4mm and 5mm plate aluminium, making these boats a cut above the rest in offshore plate-boat market.
