Yanmar helps launch s&s 'constellation'
Marine diesel engine manufacturer Yanmar has sponsored the launch of the reborn Sparkman & Stephens (S&S) 34 racing yacht built using world-first Vacuum Infusion technology.The new yacht Constellation was built by Cottesloe -- Swarbrick Yachts in WA
Constellation's vacuum infused hull construction involves applying vacuum pressure to force resin into a laminate.
The new yacht is powered by Yanmar's 3YM20 engine.
Compact in design, the 3YM20 diesel delivers 21hp from a three-cylinder 854cc unit that weighs about 120kg. Constellation's diesel is fitted with a revolutionary folding two-blade race prop by Gori Propeller.
Comfort aboard the S&S 34 is made possible by the diesel's heat exchanger providing hot water to all freshwater outlets.
Put to the test after just two 30-minute sea trials, Constellation was entered into the George Law Foundation Ocean Race.
Constellation won by 16 minutes from her Division 2 rivals and 33 minutes over the fleet of Division 1 competitors.
