Adaptability and dependability are key attributes of Yanmar's new 20.379-litre, four-valve, in-line six-cylinder engine that is offered in four power ratings and models depending on the application and duty cycle proposed. The 6AY can produce between 485kW (659hp) at 1900rpm to 671kW (911hp) at 1940rpm while offering strong performance, low fuel consumption and low emissions, said Power Equipment.
The versatile 6AY Series is suited to a range of vessels from high-speed planning hulls such as passenger ferries, patrol craft and cray fishing boats to heavy-duty displacement type vessels such as fishing trawlers and tug boats, said the distributor.
"The 6AY Series has already gained excellent sales and performance records in the Japanese, Middle East and Asian commercial marine markets." said Power Equipment national marine sales manager, Michael Blair.
"The key to the improved performance and efficiency of the 6AY Series is the use of a new staggered injection nozzle and patented combustion chamber design named ASSIGN. Developed by Yanmar originally for their large bore, low-speed propulsion engines, ASSIGN allows for a very wide rpm range that delivers outstanding fuel consumption." he said.
