Yammies Keep Firing, Hour After Hour
Professional fisherman Vaughan Barnsley is an enthusiastic advocate of Yamaha's four-stroke outboardsIt's not suprising, really, considering he has logged more than 5000 hours on his F80hp and almost 2500 hours on his FT60 while fishing the NSW waters in his two commercial boats.
According to Yamaha, these hours on the F80, in consumer terms, equates to about 100 years of use, given that the average recreational boater logs about 50 hours a year.
"The reliability of Yamaha over all the years that I have owned these outboard engines has just been amazing," Barnsley said.
"I can’t fault them. They are easy to start, quiet to operate, smooth running, and very light on fuel consumption."
He says his F80 has had nothing more than routine maintenance over the years. At 3000 hours, a few gaskets and seals were replaced by his local Yamaha servicing dealer, and then at 4500 hours the starter motor was replaced.
The story is the same with the younger FT60. For Barnsley's two Yammies, routine servicing has seen them keep on running.
