Yamaha Motor Australia acquires Telwater

BRP sells all shares of Australian aluminium boat manufacturer to Yamaha Motor

Following Bombardier Recreational Products’ (BRP) decision late last year to offload its marine assets, the company announced it has signed an agreement to sell 100 per cent of its shares of Telwater to Yamaha Motor Australia (YMA).

This means YMA will soon offer a wider and more varied range of products including on and off-road motorcycles, off-road vehicles, outboard engines, personal watercrafts, helicopters and aluminium boats.

Telwater is the home of leading boat brands including Quintrex, Stacer, Savage and Yellowfin and has been under BRP’s umbrella since 2019.

In October last year, the Canadian recreational vehicles specialist made the decision to sell its marine businesses, which includes Alumacraft, Manitou and Telwater, in order to focus on its core powersports and engine products.

“We are pleased with today’s announcement, our first transaction in the process for the sale of our Marine businesses,” said President and CEO of BRP, José Boisjoli.

“I would like to sincerely thank all of the talented employees for their contribution and commitment over the years. We know we can count on their professionalism to continue supporting our dealers and customers with dedication through this transition period, until the transaction is completed.”

YMA said the acquisition of Telwater is intended to strengthen the foundations of Yamaha Motor’s marine business, and the company aims to not only expand its sales network in the country but also reinforce the foundations of its outboard motor business.

“As we continue to grow and innovate, we remain committed to maintaining and strengthening our diverse and dynamic network of partnerships,” the company said in a statement.

“These valued relationships are essential to delivering value to our customers and driving success in the market.”

In line with the global Yamaha Motor Group’s commitment to a cleaner future, YMA said the acquisition provides an opportunity for the group to develop marine products with a reduced environmental footprint to ensure the waterways and nature can be enjoyed by the next generation of Yamaha owners.

The transaction is subject to certain customary closing conditions, including regulatory approval, and is expected to be completed between May and July 2025.

According to a statement put out to dealers by Telwater General Manager, Sam Heyes, there will be no changes to operations and it is business as usual until the transaction is finalised.
