Yamaha has added two new short-shaft models as well as a number of other rolling changes that vastly improve its F20 and F25 outboard engine ranges.
Of note, more engines in the 25hp range now include power tilt and trim. There’s also a new shorter tiller for the power tilt and trim models that relocates the control switches to make them more easily accessible than in the past.
Electric-start models also gain a manual pull start as a backup.
“The latest F25 model extensions bring PTT (power tilt and trim) functionality across to two new short shaft models, in addition to existing long shaft models,” Yamaha said in a statement announcing the running changes.
“This model variation comes in both tiller and forward control setups, giving small boat owners more choice and the option to select a premium featured engine for their hull.
“In addition, all factory-equipped tiller models that come with PTT now feature a new tiller handle that is shorter and smaller, making it easier to use in applications where space is limited,” Yamaha said.
“The tiller handle has been purpose-built for the F20 and F25 and delivers the perfect match of comfortable ergonomics and confident control.”
As well as making the trim switch more accessible, Yamaha’s new tiller also includes a Variable Trolling RPM Switch (VTS), which can accurately hold the engine at selected low revs, as standard.
The Yamaha F25 was introduced to the outboard engine maker’s range in 2017, and set a benchmark as the first of its lightweight engines to feature a battery-free electronic fuel injection system.
It has also set the benchmark as having the highest power-to-weight ratio in its class.
New models include the tilt-only F20LWPBH with manual and electric start and the new tiller (priced from $5830), the forward control F25SWTC with power tilt and trim (priced from $5840), the F25SWTHC that includes the new tiller (from $6340), the forward control F25LWTC (from $5930) and the tiller-steer F25LWTHC (priced from $6430).
The new outboard engines will arrive in Yamaha dealer showrooms from early May.
