Yamaha has updated its 150hp and 200hp 2.8-litre in-line four-cylinder outboard engine range with new looks, easier trimming and integrated steering.
The new “plug and play” electro-hydraulic steering system for the F150, F175 and F200 engines is fully compatible with Yamaha’s Helm Master EX system that adds the benefit of joystick control and specialist fishing modes to the boats that use it.
“The compact construction of integrated electro-hydraulic steering also provides more bilge, splash well and transom space than conventional steering systems,” Yamaha said in a statement announcing the change.

The new digital steering control also allows Yamaha to add its TotalTilt feature to the engines. TotalTilt makes it easier for skippers to trim the engines fully up or down, as well as set tilt limits so the engine stops short of making contact with any part of the boat.
Versions of both engines that do not feature the digital throttle and shift controls will now feature an integrated mechanical hydraulic steering system that is “simple in design yet offering all the space-saving, premium benefits of integrated steering”.
“Available for single and twin outboard applications, the new integrated hydraulic steering system propels one of Yamaha’s most popular outboard families into the next generation of enhanced boating experiences,” Yamaha said.
Boats using Yamaha's Helm Master EX now have the option of fitting a light to the aft section of the outboard engine that illuminates when the Helm master system is active. Previously, owners fitted a light to the transom that would illuminate when the system was active.
The new F150, F175 and F200 outboard engines will be added to the US market in about April. There’s no word yet on the timing for Australian availability.
