Yachtshare unveils cheap family boating

Syndication brings the price of boating down

Syndicated yacht ownership pioneer Yachtshare has announced a new boat in its Brisbane fleet with shares at less than $27,000 each.

The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 36i is currently being fitted out with a range of additional equipment including a barbecue before its official launch into the company’s Brisbane fleet in October.

Yachtshare CEO Barry Pares said monthly ongoing of just $650 will cover all the costs of valet cleaning, management, insurance, berthing, antifouling and much more.

"All our new owners need to bring to the marina are their clothes, their food and maybe some music for the sound system on board," said Pares. "The boat will be fitted with crockery and cutlery. There is even a hair dryer standard."

Pares said the up-front price for a one-tenth share provides a family with 33 days use of the boat every year plus stand-by days. Weekends, holidays and other popular times are evenly and fairly divided among owners over the three-year term.

"At the conclusion of three years, we sell the boat and each owner receives a share of the sale price equal to their share in the yacht," he said. "This makes for incredibly economical boating."

This business model ensured a pride of ownership and duty of care among the owners not seen in other models of shared boat usage, he said.

Yachtshare has selected a shoal-draft keel version of the Jeanneau for Moreton Bay with a draft of less than 1.5 metres.

Yachtshare’s two Jeanneau 39i Sun Odysseys sold out in record time and are both berthed in Manly Harbour in Brisbane. The new Jeanneau 36i Sun Odyssey will also be berthed at Manly.

The Yachtshare boating program has proven ideal for both experienced and beginner sailors as each owner and their crew are provided with a comprehensive -- and fun -- two-day RYA sanctioned training course in the basics of safe yacht handling and sailing. Yachtshare employs Southern Cross Yachting exclusively for training of all owners to ensure competent and safe use of their yacht.
