XO adds diesel outboard power to EXPLR 9 adventurer

XO’s adventure boat gains diesel economy to improve cruising range, reduce fuel use

Finnish crossover boat specialist XO has settled on adding a 300hp diesel outboard engine to its EXPLR 9 luxury dayboat in an effort to offer its customers a more fuel-efficient option.

The boats will come with the choice of a Cox CXO300 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine to hang off the transom to back up the model’s credentials as a rigid and durable platform with outstanding driving qualities.

“Offering reduced fuel consumption, extended maintenance intervals and the broadest range of approved fuels, the CXO300-powered EXPLR 9 is the perfect boat for adventure seekers looking to travel sustainably to all corners of the planet,” Cox Marine said in a statement announcing the new arrangement.

“Pre-rigged at the XO factory, the CXO300 equipment is configured to the XO EXPLR 9 – the 9.0-metre version of XO's premium weekend cruiser.

“This ensures an optimum finish to all touch points on the vessel, in every sense – from the ergonomically positioned, smooth engagement of the electric shift throttle to a perfectly balanced boat and steering system.

“This alignment means that the end user always experiences the best of both the CXO300 outboard and XO Boat.”

The deal was struck in the lead-up to Europe’s 2023-24 boating season, with the new engine option available worldwide.

XO Boats products are sold in Australia via The Adventure Boat Company.

The EXPLR 9 features a military-grade aluminium hull built around a full-beam cabin that protects the boat’s occupants from the weather, and a large bow lounge for when the conditions clear.

The boat is equipped with a bathroom and a dinette that converts into a bed.
