X-Yachts X-412 Mk II

One of the first in the range, the 12.5m X-412 performance cruiser, arrived late last year. It will be followed by the X-332 this month.

Australian X-Yachts distributor Ralph Hogg says that the range has been well received with four yachts already sold.

Well known in Europe as a manufacturer of top performing cruisers, cruiser/racers and offshore one design yachts, X-Yachts forged a reputation in the '80s and into the '90s by winning a total of 10 three-quarter and one ton world championships.

More recently the company's focus has been the development of an 11-model range of performance cruisers and cruiser/racers from 9.0-18.5m. This performance cruising line began with the launch of the X-412 in 1990.

With just a few minor changes in 1994 and 1997, the X-412 is still much in demand and remains a key model in X-Yachts' range, the company says.

In fact, the attractive 41-footer has its own winning record which includes Commodores Cup and first and second placings in the 1994 European cruiser/racer championships the company claims.

Designed by the Niels Jeppesen, the X-412's lightweight hull has a low centre of gravity and good steering characteristics, Hogg says.

With a maximum beam of 3.90m, the X-412 has a standard draft of 2.10m.

According to X-Yachts' literature the all-GRP hull and deck are manufactured with handlaid E-glass, reinforced on special high stress areas with Triaxial fibreglass and joined with a sandwich laminate using hard compressed Divinycell 20mm as core material.

The basic mast is a silver anodised triple spreader tapered unit. The cruiser-type mast head has a Profurl headstay allowing easy mounting of the furling headstay system.

Standard rigging includes discontinued rod rig, with bronze bottle screws.

The sailplan features a 39.2sqm mainsail and 61.3sqm genoa. Rigging includes one main halyard and two genoa halyards and spinnaker halyard. The mast is prepared for one extra spinnaker and is supported by two running backstays.

All surfaces in the upgraded interior are finished in marine teak plywood and varnished and oiled to obtain a satin finish, the maker says.

For durability, all bulkheads, berth fronts and backrests are fixed to the hull and deck on both sides.

Classic two or three cabin or Modern three or four cabin layouts are available.

There's 220lt freshwater onboard (with deck-mounted deck fill).

The layout includes two heads with showers and a galley and a well appointed saloon.

A three-cylinder Yanmar diesel engine with a 430mm folding propeller is standard fitment and is fed by a 129lt fueltank.
