Wyndham Harbour Marina opening

Victoria’s largest marina officially opens this weekend with on-water events

Wyndham Harbour — a $440 million residential and marina development located in Werribee South, Victoria — is just days' away from completion, officially opening to the public on Saturday 27 February 2016.

Victoria’s newest addition to Port Phillip Bay since St Kilda Marina was constructed in 1961, Wyndham Harbour will open up two new beaches along the bay; one which has been reconstructed and renourished, the other, an entirely new beach for the public.

Wyndham Harbour’s Project Director, Sonya Miller, said the much-anticipated project has been worth the wait. As the weekend event's promo line says: a grand marina deserves a grand opening.

"It has taken 13 years for Wyndham Harbour Marina to be developed – from initial planning to completion of Stage 1 – which really emphasises the significance and sheer scale of this project," she said.

"The site was originally purchased in 2003, with construction commencing eight years later. Right from the outset, we have undergone extensive consultation with the community and local authorities to make sure every element was meticulously considered, planned and executed to ensure we delivered a world-class marina.

"We’re proud to be finally unveiling Wyndham Harbour to the public, delivering Australia’s newest marina and opening up the new northern beach which will create a lifestyle and holiday destination for both locals and tourists."

Wyndham Harbour is a key development for Melbourne’s West due to significant growth in the area. In 2003, City of Wyndham’s population was 96,654; as at June 2014 it was 199,715, more than doubling in 10 years.

Wyndham City Mayor, Adele Hegedich, said Wyndham Harbour was in an ideal location providing a welcome addition to housing diversity.

"Wyndham City, the capital of Melbourne’s New West, is close to Melbourne’s CBD and home to East Werribee Employment Precinct – a designated national employment centre which features business representing the education, health and research sectors," she said.

"Wyndham Harbour promises to be asset in what is one of Wyndham’s most sought-after areas."

Upon full completion, Wyndham Harbour Marina will offer up to 1000 wet berths, dry boat storage for up to 390 boats, state-of-the-art facilities, retail amenities, and a refuelling dock and marina service centre.

In addition, Wyndham Harbour now provides the only safe harbour between Geelong and Williamstown for boating enthusiasts to dock their boats when seeking protection from volatile weather conditions, which previously did not exist.

Wyndham Harbour’s official opening weekend on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 February will kick off with boat lessons, stand up paddle boarding, fishing competitions and free family activities. For more information, please visit: Wydham Harbour website.
