World's largest wooden yacht launched

Incredible story of the launch of this giant charter yacht

This summer in the Northern Hemisphere, Camper & Nicholsons welcomed a very special yacht to the charter fleet - the 65.2m (213'9) Lamima. Offering the charm of an Indonesian two-masted phinisi with opulent luxuries of modern yacht design, her build is a nautical masterpiece.

Lamima's design was completed in 2011 by esteemed yacht designer Marcelo Penna and her build began early in 2012. Boat builders of Ara, Sulawesi, skillfully began her construction using only traditional techniques throughout the build. The boat was built near a beach and the builders have created a wooden sailing yacht like no other.

By January 2014 the boat was ready for the water and work started getting the 350-tonne boat launched. Again, using just traditional methods with blocks and chains, the boat was edged toward the sea on a ramp made of sandbags.

Finall,y after 50 men took 45 days and 18,000 sand bags to get Lamima into the water, it then took a full moon and a spring tide to float her.

The massive yacht was then towed to Bira harbour in preparation for final fitout.

Lamima is now available for charter through Camper & Nicholson. Lamima's interior layout sleeps up to 14 guests in seven staterooms -- five double cabins and two twin cabins. She is also capable of carrying up to 19 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience. Timeless styling, beautiful furnishings and sumptuous seating are said to feature throughout her living areas to create an elegant and comfortable atmosphere.

Lamima's impressive leisure and entertainment facilities make her an ideal charter yacht for socialising and entertaining with family and friends.

On deck is ample space for sunbathing, perfect for those looking to relax. Forward of her salon is an inviting al fresco dining and lounging area shaded by a fabric bimini, just the place for eating fresh fish or unwinding with a massage or yoga lesson under the calming instruction of qualified pijit masseuses.

Lamima also has plenty to offer those looking for a bit of adventure. She is a Padi-diving centre and has a Padi instructor on board so she is perfect for both beginners or advanced divers wishing to explore the phenomenal and biodiverse waters of Southeast Asia.

Also on board is an expert tour guide, whose deep understanding of the landscape, as well as local customs, culture and folklore, has led him to work with the National Geographic.
