World's fastest gameboat?

Makaira 64 breaks 50-knot 'gameboat barrier' with 3850hp before Fort Lauderdale show debut
Makaira Yachts has created a new 64 Sportfish and revolutionary new brand for the Leek family of New Jersey, who have been building boats longer than any other family in the USA. The creators of the Ocean Yachts brand will unveil what could well be the world's fastest production gameboat at the 2014 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show opening October 30.
John Leek IV challenged the Applied Concepts team with creating a vessel that could be manufactured rapidly using the most advanced production techniques while utilising custom level materials and design. The result is a radical game boat that claims to “compete with custom yachts in performance but be delivered quickly and on budget.”
The Applied Concepts’ team said it pulled together its 100 years plus of experience in design and production of world-class yachts and, after a year of development, delivered to the Leek family an “epic vessel.”
The Makaira 64 is tank tested to more than 50 knots and proved as much in sea trials. Steve French, founder of Applied Concepts, reportedly said the vessel exceeds all of its performance envelopes.”
“The Makaira line has been built for big open water. The forefoot cuts perfectly through the waves and when you bank, the water just peels off the chines for a dry ride. The unique transom design allowed us to back down and manoeuvre aggressively and the 360° visibility from the helm is outstanding.
“We incorporated a new precision floating shaft system into this build which, combined with her monococque construction practically eliminates cockpit noise and vibration. Everyone involved is enormously proud of this boat and judging by the amount of inquiries we have already seen, a lot of serious sport fishermen and offshore boaters are going to be as well,” French was reported as saying.
The new design allows for production in both Makaira 64’ and 68’ sizes (with the 68’ enjoying more beam and considerably more interior space). Both the 64 and 68 are available in enclosed bridge configurations and have multiple interior layout possibilities.
The boat on show at the 2014 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show has twin Caterpillar C32 1925hp engines for the 50+ knots top speed! The ‘battlewagon,’ touted as a benchmark design, has the ability to maintain high speeds in heavier seas than any other boat in her class, say her designers.
One of the first large scale semi-custom Sportfish yachts in the world, the Maikara 64 utilises vacuum-infusion technology from the keel up. Corecell, 3M Nidacore and infusion technologies were combined to create a seriously tough structure to handle the punishment of the world’s harshest environment.
This method will not only guarantee strength, say the builders, but also a huge saving in weight over the competition. Displacement of the Makaira 64 is about 34,475kg dry — a Riviera 63 Open with twin 1150hp C18s weighs 35,850kg dry — and a lot of its weight is clearly CAT iron.
According to CAT data, the V12s consume about 385lt/hr full noise and 200lt/hr each at 1900-2000rpm cruise at, we guess, 40 knots on this fishing flyer.
