New Zealand woman Donna Pascoe has caught the biggest fish ever landed by a woman in New Zealand. This 907lb (411.43kg) monster tuna has also been ratified by the IGFA as the all tackle record and the women's 60kg record for a Pacific bluefin tuna.
Fifty-six-year-old Ms Pascoe said it was great to get the women's record but she was even more pleased to get the all-tackle record because "it beats all the boys."
But it was not without a struggle. "Oh fudge! The 'funs' caught..." We suppose marlin doors weren't meant for tuna this big!
Ms Pascoe took four hours to land the fish which caught from her boat Gladiator 34 miles north of NZ. The fish was hauled aboard the boat with the help of the crew... and the anchor winch (see the video below).
The fish was caught in February but it has taken until now for the for the records to be approved by the International Game Fishing Association (IGFA).
Ms Pascoe wasn't allowed to sell the tuna as it was not caught on a commercial boat, but to put it into perspective, the leviathan weighed more than a baby elephant and could fill over 3000 cans of tuna. Ms Pascoe said she would have the beast stuffed and mounted "for the memory".
