Whittley has a new power-management system for its factory-rolled trailerboats that teams Garmin’s multifunction (MFD) screens with Volvo Penta’s engine data to create a modern, streamlined and information-rich touch-screen operating experience.
Using the plug-and-play NMEA2000 protocol and data network, the new engine-monitoring and power system does away with the need for mechanical gauges to be cut into the dash. The result is a clean helm set-up free from cumbersome wiring and clutter, with more information at your fingertips.
The new integrated power management system is standard on
Whittley boats from
the Sea Legend 22 and Cruiser 2380 right up to the 28ft trailerable flagships in both ranges.
Whittley Marine's Design Director, Steven Whittley, said customers are the big winners from the partnership between Whittley, Garmin and Volvo Penta. And more new and exciting technology can easily be added in the future.
"Our high-tech trailerboats have big-boat technology and advancement that’s now standard on our larger models. It is a win-win for all parties and the consumer," he said.
GARMIN SCREENS
The new simple engine-management system displays Volvo Penta data and diagnostics through a standard Garmin 7in MFD screen, but a 12in or 16in screen is available as an upgrade.
At the push of a button, users can see accurate engine data including fuel flow, distance to empty, battery performance and lots more.
The new engine system also integrates to Volvo’s new Battery Control Module (BCM), which manages your boat’s electrical system. The BCM acts as a push-button power hub and replaces traditional barrel-style battery switches.
The BCM manages the charging and distribution of power between batteries from the motor, as well as power usage throughout the boat, and is designed to create a simple operating and management system. No more fumbling around for battery switches.
"Owners can head out fishing or skiing with the family with the confidence that the boat system will work every time, while giving optimum power efficiency where it’s needed."
"It’s especially reassuring for boat owners who spend extended time living aboard," said Whittley Marine's Managing Director, Neville Whittley.
Volvo Penta’s BCM is an especially simple system for new boaters, too, since it does away with manual house/engine start and split-battery switching and pretty much takes care of itself.
NEW BATTERY SYSTEMS
Whittley’s boats with sterndrives will also come standard with a built-in waterproof battery charger, which runs off a 240V connection — in the garage or marina shorepower — to keep your batteries fully charged and optimise their lifespan.
The new power and battery management system can also be upgraded to Whittley’s exclusive Pulse system, featuring digital switching via the Garmin screen, a separate 2.5in screen for battery diagnostics, and an E-key remote that controls engine start-up, along with battery “on” and “off” functions.
The new management system, and the Queensland release of the new Whittley CW 1950 and SL 25HT, will be on display at the Brisbane Boat Show from the August 25 to 27, 2017.
Nine Whittley models will be showcased at the Northside Marine stand #307 over the three days of the Brisbane Boat Show.
