This year is shaping up to be a pretty exciting one for anyone dreaming to pick up the title to an all-new luxury motor yacht that will one day ply the waters around Australia.
Despite the pandemic, sales of larger boats are booming worldwide with boat-makers expanding their showrooms with new and exciting models boating even more comforts and delights.
Key among them are the big two Australian boat brands, Riviera and Maritimo, who will each introduce the largest models they have ever built.
Not only that, but there will be some highly anticipated superyacht action, with an Australian buyer conformed for one of the most luxurious superyachts on the market.
Here’s what we know is coming, and when – and some are sooner than you think.
The largest and most expensive motor yacht that Gold Coast-based Riviera will build to date is due to make its global debut in the lead-up to the 2022 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.
Styled by Italian superyacht designer Luca Vallebona, it features a single hull window, four staterooms including a full-beam master suite, a highly user-friendly cockpit, a bow lounge, and a large flybridge that can bring the outdoors inside via large drop-down windows, a sunroof, and a glass bulkhead that folds away.
The Riviera 78 will use an extended version of the hull that sits under the smaller Riviera 68 and 72 models.
It will also stand as a capable long-range cruiser, with a 10,500-litre fuel capacity and a set of carbonfibre stabiliser fins to help it both at speed and at rest.
Maritimo’s new Offshore series boats introduce an extended lower cockpit – a nod to the fact that for many large motor yacht owners, this is where the focus will be.
The 600 Offshore series will feature a closed transom, quite different to the open transoms fitted to other models in the Maritimo flybridge and sedan range apart from custom jobs that usually want to use the luxury motor yacht for sport fishing.
In a sense, this is what the S600 Offshore sedan and M600 Offshore flybridge are – specialist fishing models that can range wide to chase tuna and marlin with supreme confidence.
You can even equip the flybridge version of the boat with aft-mounted controls so that the skipper can easily back up on a fish.
We can expect to see this new model make its global debut at the 2022 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.
Two new flagships join Maritimo’s showroom in 2022 with the launch of the M75 flybridge and S75 sedan models.
Both these boats were announced late in 2021, so the expectation is that we’re not going to see them until much later in 2022, possibly around the time of October’s 2022 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in the US.
Fitted with the optional lower deck level swim platform, the Maritimo M75 and S75 will both feature a large lower deck space that connects the motor yacht with the water.
Several orders for the Maritimo M75 are already on the books. The S75 was teased just before the end of 2021.
Ever wondered how significant Australia is in terms of the worldwide luxury motor yacht market? It’s so important that Taiwan-based boatmaker Horizon will launch the first-ever of its FD75 Skyline models here.
“FD” denotes that this new three-level model is from Horizon’s fast displacement series of hulls. The Horizon FD75 is the new entry-level model to the range, and the just-built hull No.4 is destined for an Australian buyer.
This boat includes “Skyline” in its name, meaning it is the first build to have a fully enclosed flybridge lounge. It will also include a near-deck level full-beam master suite, as well as two full-beam guest suites forward of the engine room.
The Horizon FD75 Skyline is already on a boat bound for its new Australian owner alongside an FD90 Skyline, an FD103 Trideck and an E88 Skylounge.
Another sports yacht already on its way to Australia is the all-new Whitehaven 6800SY, a custom build based on the flagship Whitehaven 7000SY.
This custom build includes hull windows embedded in a feature panel, a two-piece windscreen and a more user-friendly foredeck lounge area that combines sunbeds with seating.
Inside, the galley is changed so that it uses the full beam of the boat, and the cockpit space includes a day head so that swimmers don’t need to walk through the boat’s interior to take a rest break.
The build for the Whitehaven 6800 has resonated so well with potential buyers that Whitehaven has already spun ideas from the concept out into a smaller model called the 6100SY.
The most notable feature of the Whitehaven 6100SY is a redesigned cockpit seating area. It now faces aft and includes conversion into a day bed.

The transom-mounted barbecue is now equipped with a galley station and overlooks the lower deck and swim platform that includes seating built into the transom.
Internally, the galley now runs the full beam of the boat, and larger windows let in more natural light.
The Whitehaven 6100SY also adopts the more user-friendly bow seating area introduced with the larger 6800SY that includes a mix of sunbeds and seating.
Heard of Isa Yachts? It’s an Italian shipyard famed for its high-end superyachts made with high-tensile steel hulls and aluminium superstructures capable of long-range cruising in what is likely to be described as a floating palace.
One of its newest flagship models is the Isa Granturismo 45, a 45-metre superyacht introduced to the world at last year’s Cannes Yachting Festival. And it has just been ordered by an Australian customer.
The four-deck Granturismo 45 includes a horizon pool, a glass-doored beach club-slash-gym that opens up onto the lower cockpit, and a full beam owner’s suite replete with its own private access.
The Isa Granturismo 45 will accommodate up to eight guests across four cabins, with nine crew also onboard to ensure the superyacht runs smoothly.
It’s a bit of a wait before we see this new superyacht, with delivery to its new Aussie owner expected in early 2023.
