What to see at the 2024 Sydney International Boat Show

UPDATED: The countdown is on for the 2024 Sydney International Boat Show. What can you expect to see?

It's now less than four weeks until Sydney's Darling Harbour lights up with the 2024 Sydney International Boat Show. This year's event promises to be one of the best ever, with a range of new products to whet the appetite of almost every water user.

How wide a range of new products? Let's take a look through the list of Australian debuts that are lining up to wow audiences.

Blakes Marine will host the Australian launch of the Chaparral 250 OSX, the smallest and most affordable model in the high-end dayboat range.

The 250 OSX features a 20-degree deadrise, meaning it is well suited to handling the rough-and-tumble of waters such as Sydney Harbour, the Gold Coast Broadwater or Port Phillip.

Despite its diminutive 7.47-metre length, the Chaparral 250 OSX features plenty of storage, a toilet locker, a walkaround swim platform, a child- and pet-friendly internal freeboard, and space onboard for up to 14 people.

Flagstaff Marine will host the Australian debut of the Marc Lombard-designed Beneteau Oceanis 37.1, the eighth model in the new-look Oceanis cruiser range.

The shorthanded-friendly Oceanis 37.1 is the largest of Beneteau's Oceanis range to not feature a backstay.

Rigid inflatable hull boat specialist Sirroco will have one of the larger displays at the Sydney boat show with an array of 36 models in the International Convention and Exhibition Centre halls.

The display will include the Brig Eagle 8 and Eagle 10 luxury dayboats, as well as the new Brig Eagle 6.7 featuring a redesigned hull and a multipurpose navigation mast.

Sirocco will also have models from Zodiac on display including the Zodiac Open 6.5, the best-selling model in the Open range, as well as the Zodiac Medline 7.5 and Medline 9 luxury dayboats, as well as models from Scirocco tiller-steer and centre console models, and the Williams SportJet 395, a yacht tender featuring a 90hp jet drive engine.

Albury, NSW-based watersports specialist Malibu will land at the Sydney show to reveal an all-new version of the Malibu Response TXi ski boat.

The redesigned tow boat, sitting on top of Malibu’s T-Cut Diamond Hull, features a redesigned interior that adds a one-piece observer’s seat, two-piece removable rear seats, a flip-down “tricks” seat, and new soft-grip and deck track panelling.

The redesign also incorporates slalom driver course tracking points, interior mounted ski racks, an integrated hot water shower, new billet aluminium grab handles, larger 8.0-inch speakers, and improved driver’s seat positioning.

TMG Yachts, meanwhile, will have plenty of new boats that mark its largest display yet at Darling Harbour, as well as its longest combined waterline.

Taking pride of place will be the Lagoon Seventy8, the 23.8-metre flagship model of Beneteau’s luxury cruising catamaran sub-brand.

This year marks Lagoon’s 40th anniversary, with the boat maker offering up to €40,000 ($A64,000) of extra gear for anyone who places an order for a new boat.

Alongside the Lagoon Seventy 8 will be the Prestige X70, the so-called 21.8-metre “private island” featuring a saloon deck that extends over the full beam of the interior to maximise the onboard living space.

Rounding out the TMG Yachts display of new boats is the Prestige M48 catamaran, the model that launched the sister brand to Lagoon on the global market. The boat missed its debut at May's 2024 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show after shipping delays forced it to land in Australia later than anticipated.

The Prestige M48 provides a better connection to the environment, featuring extensive outdoor living spaces.

Lightweight boat specialist Carbon Yachts will use Darling Harbour for the Australian premiere of the Candela C-8, an electric hydrofoiling dayboat that should thrive in environments such as Sydney Harbour.

This boat features a battery system developed by Swedish performance electric vehicle specialist Polestar, and has a range of 57.0 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 22.0 knots. Top speed is given as 30.0 knots.

Stabicraft dealer Webbe Marine will have a couple of new products on its Sydney boat show stand.

The first one will be the Stabicraft 2350 Supercab, a new version boasting 40 percent more cabin space than the version it replaces. Alongside it will be the Stabicraft 2050 Treker, the first of Stabicraft's style of fishing-focussed dayboats that is popular in the North American market but has yet to woo Australian hearts and minds.

Dayboat dealership Eyachts will have the Australian premiere of the Axopar 29 Sun Top, a compact adventure boat with a roomy aft deck and a rakishly angled T-top.

Being an Axopar, it’s fast, capable of up to 48.0 knots depending on the outboard engine hanging off the back, but also economical, using around 1.6 litres of fuel a nautical mile at a cruising speed of between 24.0 knots to 34.0 knots.

Also making its debut is the Iron 827 Coupe, a uniquely styled Swedish-designed dayboat with a subtle RIB-like collar that adds buoyancy but also protects the hull from anything the boat pulls up alongside.

The 8.3-metre Iron 827 Coupe features an enclosed fibreglass cabin with space for up to five adults. The seats fold to form a double bed, with owners also able to choose a shower and toilet.

Despite its length, the Iron 827 Coupe has a low weight and 2.44-metre beam, meaning you can easily tow it behind a trade ute or large SUV.

Over at Mercury Marine, show-goers will be able to take a closer look at the new Avator 110e electric outboard motor.

It’s the most powerful battery-fuelled powerplant in Mercury’s Avator specialist propulsion range, producing 11kW of prop speed equivalent to a 15hp petrol-fuelled outboard engine, making it an ideal alternative for powering a runabout.

On that, Mercury will also have its new 8.0hp Mercury EFI Fourstroke and 9.9hp Mercury EFI FourStroke electronic fuel injection outboard engines on display. These new-generation engines do not need a battery to power the fuel injection system.

The 2024 Sydney International Boat Show is held at Darling Harbour from August 1-4. Tickets for adults aged 16 and over cost $27.90 and are available online.
