Weekly Sailing Summary

Transfusion wins Farr 40 regatta, wet and no wind for Melbourne to Stanley race, rough conditions in Gosford to Lord Howe race.

KEEL BOATS
Two days of racing on the Palm Beach circle off Palm Beach in Sydney has delivered the 2010 Pittwater Farr 40 regatta win to Guido Belgiorno Nettis’ Transfusion. The fleet, which had two new teams lining up for this event, raced six races over the two days and the weather gods provided plenty of breeze and swell. www.farr40.asn.au

A fleet of 32 yachts started the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria’s Melbourne to Stanley Race. Gusto, the line honours winner, arrived into Stanley on the top of Tasmania with virtually no breeze, but plenty of rain. 22 vessels and their crews decided that no wind and a lot of rain were more than enough reason to turn back. www.orcv.org.au

Heavy seas and strong winds in the northern Tasman Sea forced six of the 17 yachts to retire from the 414 nautical mile Hempel Paints 37th Gosford to Lord Howe Island Race. The rough sea conditions abated on Monday. www.gosfordsailingclub.com.au
