Weekly Sailing Summary

Outteridge and Jensen win 49ers in Holland, Audi Winter Series, win a crew position in Europe, Ainslie wins Match Race Germany

OLYMPIC CLASSES


The Australian Sailing Team's Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen won the 49er class at the Delta Lloyd Regatta in Holland. In their first regatta together Outteridge and Jensen showed the fleet that their long hours of training in Australia had paid off by claiming six top three finishes in the regatta's 12 races. KEEL BOATS


Race five of the Audi Winter Series 2009 commenced in 10-15 knots of easterly breeze with a full course being sailed on course B. The rain clouds held off for most of the afternoon, providing a light shower or two and the breeze was the most consistent yet of the Audi Winter Series. A fleet of 137 yachts took to the start line for a very enjoyable winter's day sailing. Click here for more.


Kevin Fogarty's Idle Time is on the pace to contest the Performance Handicap class trophy during the 2009 Meridien Marinas Airlie Beach Race Week series over the Whitsunday Sailing Club's courses in August. Click here for more.


- INTERNATIONAL


Quantum Sails is accepting entries to win an all-expenses-paid trip to be part of the crew on board TP52 Quantum Racing for the Audi MedCup event in Portimao, Portugal. The regatta will take place on August 18-23, 2009. Click here for more.


An estimated 45,000 people experienced the sights and sounds of Langenargen when the town played host to the second stage of the World Match Racing Tour. Match Race Germany ended with Ben Ainslie (GBR) and Team Origin winning the event in a first to three points final against Damien Iehl (FRA) and his French Match Racing Team. Click here for more.

AROUND THE WORLD


Volvo Ocean Race - Puma won the in-port race series in Galway, Ireland, after two races were held on Galway Bay. This is the first time that PUMA has been on top of the podium for the Volvo Ocean Race and it brings her closer to second place in the overall standings. Leg eight from Galway to Marstrand, Sweden, starts 6 June. Click here for more.


New rules for the 2011 Volvo Ocean Race will allow 'female' teams to carry twelve sailors, including the media crew, two of whom may be men. The maximum weight for the keel fin and bulb will be set at 7,400 kilograms in the future. There will also be a minimum keel fin weight to be defined at a later date. The fin will be required to be solid, with no fairings permitted. Click here for more.

Treleavens' Travels - From West End on Roatan, Honduras, to the outer atolls of Belize, Ian and Andrea Treleaven have a perfect 80 nautical mile daylight sail and manage to hook two dorado. As provisions have not been easy to find, they have become hunters not gatherers. Click here for more.
