POWERBOATS & FISHING
Acme Fibreglass Supplies Australian Offshore Powerboat Series - A powerful display of offshore racing by father-son duo, Bill and Tom Barry-Cotter saw the Maritimo team take out round six of the offshore powerboat series on the Gold Coast.

The XLR8 Home Loans Australian Formula 1 Superboat Series moves to Port Macquarie on the mid-north coast of New South Wales where round five will be conducted over the weekend of July 15 - 16.

Scientist calls for ban on two-strokes after research finds underwater pollutants could be cut by up to 1000 per cent by switching from two to four-stroke outboard engines.

Bermagui pro fisherman Dominic Puglisi has re-powered his fishing trawler with a Yanmar 6KYM series engine and slashed more than $45,000 from his annual fuel bill.

Over 50 boats graced the waters of the picturesque Tweed River for the second qualifying round of the Ford Courier BREAM Series, the 4BC Tweed River BREAM Challenge.

Maritimo has improved boat production systems to allow a complete 15.75m (51ft) boat to come off the line every 10 days.

NEWS BRIEFS
Allan Witt is the winner of the Australian Wooden Boat Festival's Derwent Skiff Design Competition against very keen competition from 17 Tasmanian, interstate and overseas designers. The design entries will be on show during the Festival on February 9 - 12, 2007. Expressions of interest to build the first-off-the-line boat during the Festival are currently being invited.

The Australian National Maritime Museum, on Sydney's Darling Harbour, notched up record visitor numbers in the last financial year.

MARINE INDUSTRY NEWS
Sweden's Volvo Penta acquires Eastern Engine Pty Ltd, an authorised Volvo Penta importer and distributor for almost 20 years, located in Brisbane.

Australia's boat manufacturing sector under threat but overall the industry has never been busier. Peter Jenkins, marketing manager for Maritimo has scoffed at suggestion the boating industry is "doing it tough".

Commercial operators have an opportunity to purchase their Yamaha outboard engines under an innovative, simple and flexible leasing scheme.
