Trask team sat out Australian Superboat F1 series, Lightwaves new Powercat, Coral Coast Rally includes powerboats, franchising self drive trailered boats, careers in megayacht industry

POWERBOATS & FISHING
Lightwave is releasing the 46ft Powercat at Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show on May 18 - 21. It follows the design concept of the 40ft, delivering excellent fuel efficiencies at good cruising speeds. Fitted with twin 160hp Volvo diesel motors with shaft drives, it includes a master stateroom with walk in robe, guest cabin with ensuite and a double cabin.

The Brisbane based F1 race team, Trask Development Corporation/Sea Quest sat out the Hobart round of the Australian Superboat F1 series. The logistics of getting drivers and crew from Hobart to the opening round of the UIM F1 World Series in Qatar in time for boat set up and practice by Wednesday was impossible.

Sydney Fishing Report - The highlights this summer have been some excellent days with really good fishing under the FAD off Port Hacking and at All @ Sea's secret fish trap floats.

Construction has started on a new fish handling facility at Mackay Marina Village which is set to attract more commercial fishing dollars to the Mackay region. The total gross value of Australian fisheries production is now $2.3 billion (Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics).

CRUISING
The Dent to Dunk Race and Coral Coast Rally are still on in May but the finish will be at Cardwell's Port Hinchinbrook. Cyclone Larry caused damage to Dunk Island, (the Beach Bar is gone) and the resort has closed for repairs and refurbishment until sometime in June. The Coral Coast Rally is not limited to sailing boats. A couple of powerboats have entered, for the navigation trial as well as the social side of things.

The new $150 million Rivergate Marina & Shipyard is set to become a stopover for game fishermen heading to the Cairns fishing grounds, or boats cruising to the Whitsundays. Located adjacent to the Gateway Bridge, it is fifteen minutes from the CBD, ten minutes from Brisbane Airport and six nautical miles from Moreton Bay

MARINE INDUSTRY

A free information session to kick-start a career in the megayacht industry will be conducted at the Sanctuary Cove International Boatshow on Sunday May 21 in the Village Theatre. The information session will provide details on salaries, lifestyle, qualifications and employment opportunities, ranging from skipper to engineer, and barman to hostess.

Theo Wiggill, President - Brunswick Asia Pacific Group, will retire from the Company effective July 3, 2006, with his last work day being May 1, after which he will be on Long Service Leave.

Boating Industry Association of Queensland AGM - Sharon Russell, Boat Share Australia; Kevin Nichols, CruiseCraft; and Chris Carrington, shipwright/surveyor, have been elected as new directors. Graeme Avers received the President's Award for 2006.

The Langkawi International Boat Exhibition (LIBEX) will be held November 24-27 on the Malaysian island of Langkawi to coincide with the Grand Finale of the 2006 Darwin-Bali-Langkawi Yacht Rally and the 2006 Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta.

April 16 - SA Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol Fishing Competition will be held on Easter Saturday at Point Victoria, 190km by road from Adelaide.

April 17 - Easter Monday - public holiday

April 28 - 30 -- Fremantle Boating Festival, sponsored by Nautilus Marine Insurance Agency, represents all aspects of boating and on water activities.
