Weekly Powerboats & Fishing Summary

Thrills and spills at Tourkley, results reversed for 2005 World Powerboat Championship, end of summer clearance sale at boat show

Summary for w/b - 14 Mar, 2006 12pm

POWERBOATS & FISHING
Australian F1 Superboat Series - Round two of the XLR8 Formula One Superboat Grand prix at the Beachcomber Hotel Toukley NSW, turns on the action with plenty of thrills and spills and some close racing. Team Arizona's vessel flipped over backwards, landing heavily, but fortunately without much damage. On the restart, and with not even two laps completed Shane Vella looked for another way around or over and ended up over and out.

 - The two-boat Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest team dominated the event. Lead driver and team owner Bob Trask battled fuel delivery problems as particles clogged up the fuel filters.

Qatar 96 is disqualified for rounds 6 and 7 of the 2005 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship held in Dubai, after receiving the results of a post championship dyno test, carried out on one of Qatar 96's Mercury engines, which showed the engine to be over the stated power limit. As they stand, the amended results reverse the outcome of the 2005 UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship with the title being awarded to Victory 77, Spirit of Norway dropping to second, Negotiator moving up to third place and Qatar 96 down to fourth. The amended results are open to appeal.

The American Boat Builders and Repairers Association (ABBRA) recently awarded Mercury Marine's SmartCraftT integrated electronics system its annual "Excellence in Technology" award. SmartCraft is available on Mercury OptiMax, Verado and all EFI engines.

The sporty 250 SELECT EX is the newest offering in the premium luxury series of boats from Sea Ray and is an ideal setting for a ski party.
