Weekly Powerboats & Fishing Summary

Close up photos identify a stolen boat. This weekend there's the Southern 80 Water Ski race, the Summer Boat Show in Melbourne, racing in Geelong and more.

STOLEN BOAT RECOVERED
A stolen boat was recovered and two people have been charged by the Water Police, including a Boatcode agent in Sydney's western suburbs. It was sheer luck that started the boat recovery process and a lot of close up photos identified the boat.

POWERBOATS & FISHING
The Southern 80 Water Ski race takes place on the Murray River between Torrumbarry and Echuca on February 10 - 12. There are over 120 bends in this part of the river. 475 entries have been received, which is 20 more than the record set in 2000.

NewQuay Marina Summer Boat Show will be held February 10 - 12, Corner Harbour Esplanade & Docklands Ave, Melbourne. New boats and accessories, boat licence testing, water ski school, wakeboard competition, fishing tournament, and try sailing.

CRUISING
Cruising yachts anchoring off Phuket's west coast are advised to use heavy ground tackle to secure the vessel, as Kilo a Silkline 510 catamaran which went missing from Phuket recently, has been found in the Nicobar Islands and now the Indian Coast Guard service, who found the 50ft catamaran, are asking US$56,000 by way of a 'recapitation' fee.

NEWS BRIEFS
Nominations are open for the annual Sydney Harbour Awards to be presented on March 3 aboard the Tall Ship James Craig at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay.

Nautilus Marine Insurance Agency, which was founded last year as a national insurer of recreational pleasure boats and commercial vessels, has appointed WA insurance executive, Raymond Fisher as its first Western Australian State manager.

May 18 - 21 -- The Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show will offer the largest on water leisure and light commercial display ever staged in Australia at this year's event. At least eight motor yachts (80ft or larger) are expected at the show.
