Australia's new Customs boats, fishermen in court in Victoria and NSW, nominations called for NSW Maritime Medal

POWERBOATS & FISHING


Japanese engineered F100 Yamaha outboards have been fitted to power New Zealand built Stabicraft boats for use by the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service. The contract called for the supply of nine identical boats to protect Australian shores from illegal importation of drugs and illegal immigrants. More details.


A Victorian man has been fined and forced to forfeit his boat and fishing gear after he pleaded guilty in Sale Magistrate's Court to using commercial fishing equipment without authorisation and obstructing a Fisheries Officer. More information.


Two men are each facing almost $50,000 in fines and six months in prison after allegedly being found in possession of a number of illegal lobster pots and prohibited size eastern rock lobsters in NSW. More details.


A two day meeting will be held at the Hume Boat Club, Albury, on 24-25 October 2009 with scrutineering and Test n Tune on Saturday and racing on Sunday. More details.


The VicAPBA has agreed to administer an Unlimited Outboard series across four rounds from November 2009 to April 2010. More details.


Data recently published by the independent auditing group, ERG International, has confirmed the dominance of the Yanmar brand in the Australian marketplace. For many years, more loose Yanmar diesel engines have been sold than any other brand in Australia. More information.

Final nominations are being called for the NSW Maritime Medal awarded to an individual or group who deserves public recognition for their outstanding contributions to the boating and marine community. More information.


Marine artist Giovanna Cattoi has about 90 minutes to capture the kaleidoscope of colour and movement on Queensland's Great Barrier Reef. That's the time it takes for her oxygen tank to run out while she sketches underwater during the first step of a process that finishes with her unique paintings on display on the Sunshine Coast. Aug 22 - Traditionally run on the dry bed of the Todd River in the Northern Territory's Alice Springs, the Henley-on-Todd was cancelled in 1993 due to the uncharacteristic flooding of the river. But it will be business as usual at this year's event, when residents and visitors alike congregate for the quirky race. More details.
