Weekly Powerboat and Fishing Summary

Qatar Team returns to Class 1, Tasmanian circumnavigation cruise starts, new fuel treatment products

POWERBOAT RACING
The Qatar Team will return to racing in the UIM Class 1 World Powerboat Championship with two Michael Peters designed, Victory built hulls powered by Lamborghini V12 power-plants. The team withdrew from the Championship in 2009, opting to pursue racing activities in the United States and Australia. The reason to return to the Class One Championship was based on major changes to the association. Sheikh Hassan confirmed that he will resume his partnership with English throttleman Steve Curtis in Qatar 96, and that fellow Qatari Ali Al-Neama will partner Italian throttleman Matteo Nicolini in Qatar 95. www.class-1.com

CRUISING
A fleet of yachts and motor cruises left Hobart on February 16 to participate in the WMcA Building Services Van Diemens Land Circumnavigation Cruise. More boats will leave from Queenscliff in Port Phillip Bay on 25 February to join the Hobart fleet at Beauty Point on the Tamar River. www.ryct.org.au

POWERBOATS
Mercury Marine has released a new range of fuel treatment products, called Quickare, Quickleen and Quickstor. The improved formulas in all three products have been specifically designed to suit our harsh marine environment. Mercury Marine recommends boat owners buy fuel from trusted sources, routinely inspect fuel tanks for water sediment, regularly check their fuel filter and carry a spare fuel filter in case of sudden blockage.

Lewis Marine in Tasmania has announced a major overhaul of the boat brands that the company stocks and sells. Effective immediately, Lewis Marine is the authorised dealer in Tasmania for the Haines Signature brand of fibreglass boats and the Extreme line of aluminium plate boats.

Honda’s new BF250 outboard will be available in Australia towards the end of this year. Based on a large-displacement 3.6-litre engine, the concept BF250 has been designed to deliver the optimum balance of performance and fuel efficiency, through exclusive Honda technologies including BLAST™ -- air/fuel ratio linked ignition timing control technology; VTEC® -- variable valve timing and electronic control; and ECOmo -- unique lean burn control system.

SAFETY
Failure to comply with essential boating safety equipment requirements was the most common infringement issued during Operation Blue Water, conducted by NSW Maritime Boating Safety Officers.
