Weekly Powerboat and Fishing Summary

Superboat dates set for 2011, floods cancel Grafton event, ‘Take Care – Be Prop Aware' campaign

POWERBOAT RACING
Dates for the Australian Offshore Superboat Championships have been set for 2011 at Williamstown, Geelong, Newcastle, Mackay, Townsville and Redcliff. A link to on-board cameras capturing Trojan Steel’s rollover at Redcliffe is also on the website at www.superboat.com.au

SKIING & WAKEBOARDING
The rerun of the Grafton Bridge to Bridge to be conducted by the Big River Ski Club Inc on 16 January has been cancelled/postponed due to the high amount of rain received in the upper reaches of the Clarence River.

However, the Wakeboarding Spectacular on the Clarence on 15-16 January will go ahead. This is a new event for Grafton and should prove to be extremely entertaining for spectators. www.graftonb2b.org.au

SAFETY
NSW Maritime recently launched the ‘Take Care – Be Prop Aware’ campaign in a bid to help prevent accidents involving boat propellers. Propeller injuries are preventable and the skipper of every boat is responsible for the safety of people on board, so every skipper should be vigilant and consider the area around the prop as a ‘hazard zone’. www.maritime.nsw.gov.au

MARINE INDUSTRY
Australian Marine Tech Industries exhibited their range of quality aluminium and stainless steel pedestals to the international marine industry at the annual Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) staged at Amsterdam. METS is the world’s largest trade exhibition of equipment, materials and systems for the international marine leisure industry. As a direct result of exhibiting at METS, Marine Tech Industries has appointed a distributor in Europe and their pedestals will be on show at the London International Boat Show in January.
