
POWERBOATS & FISHING
Race one of the Romanian Grand Prix on Lake Siutghiol, Mamaia-Constanta, round 3 of the UIM WPPA Class 1 World Powerboat Championship was packed with incident and accidents, with Fazza leading from start-to-finish to claim their second win of the season. A spectacular 180 degree flip on one of the more docile corners of the course saw Peter McGrath and Giorgio Manuzzi on Maritimo 12 crash out on lap 7, ending their weekend's racing. - In race two Fazza had another win, ensuring a clean sweep of the weekend's honours. Welmax's overnight repairs were rewarded with second place and Maritimo 11 made up for race one's disappointing fourth place by taking third in race two. More details.
A scheduling clash has forced organisers to make a minor alteration to the Redcliffe Offshore Grand Prix, final round of the 2009 Australian Offshore Superboat Championships. The previously advertised start time, 1100hrs, Sunday, September 13, has been set back one hour to 1200hrs. More inormation.
Haines Hunter will have the largest boating presence at next week’s National 4x4, Off Road, Fishing & Outdoors Expo at the Melbourne Showgrounds on 4-6 September. Port Phillip Boating Centre’s 400sqm exhibit will showcase Haines Hunter’s recently-released Profish series, along with a range of other popular models – including fishing identity Charlie Micallef’s red-hot 600R fishing machine, Savage Seas. John Duggan together with his wife Kathy operates a busy charter boat out of Tuncurry on the mid north coast of NSW. An annual zero bag limit for Australian bass and estuary perch from all NSW rivers and estuaries will end on August 31 after a three month closed season. The Murray cod season will be closed from September 1 to November 30 to protect this native species during its breeding season. The trout cod, a threatened species and close relative of the Murray cod are protected all year round. More information.

The Melbourne Wooden Boat Festival 2010 will be held at Waterfront City Marina and Piazza, Docklands on 19-21 February, 2001. The event will bring together all major wooden boat and classic yacht groups in and around Melbourne and is designed to promote wooden boat heritage and connect a broader public with the spirit of timber boating.
