World champion wakeboarder on indoor water circuit at Brisbane Boat Show, fishing for yellow belly at Longreach, Honda resigns from OEDA

POWERBOATS & FISHING


World champion wakeboarder Daniel Watkins is used to wowing audiences on the water around the world, but will make a splash of a different kind at the 2009 Brisbane Boat Show, August 27-30. The Gold Coast born and bred stuntman is set to show spectators why he is Australia’s most awarded professional wakeboarder on a specially crafted indoor water circuit stretching over 70 metres inside the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Longreach Yellowbelly Classic catch and release fishing competition, held from 28 to 30 August, is open to boat and land anglers. All entrants must be present to claim their prizes or they will be redrawn. More details.


Honda has resigned from Australia’s marine engine representative body, the Outboard Engine Distributors Association (OEDA). On the same day two other marine engine brands also withdrew their support of the troubled industry organisation. More info.


Yamaha has announced the appointment of Robin Dayes to the position of Victoria/Tasmania State Manager – Marine Products. In this senior management role, Robin is responsible for both Yamaha outboards and Yamaha Wave Runners. More details.

Worldwide there are seven species of marine turtles, and six of them swim in Australian waters. These resilient creatures have lived in the oceans for more than 100 million years, adapting to constant environmental changes. But today marine turtle species are no longer able to keep up with the rapid changes to their environment, and their survival is under serious threat. More info.


Public boating facilities are about to receive another boost following the latest round of funding applications under the NSW State Government’s Better Boating Program (BBP). More details.
