WEATHER WARNING: Shoalhaven

Steer clear of storm-ravaged and flooded waterways on NSW South Coast

Roads and Maritime Services urges boaters to avoid waterways in flood affected areas on the NSW south coast as obstructions may be present in the water and condtions may change at short notice.

Maritime Director Angus Mitchell said waterways affected by flooding included Shoalhaven River, Currambene Creek, St Georges Basin, Sussex Inlet, Lake Conjola and Clyde River, as well as smaller lakes and inlets in the area.

"With flood waters still rising in many areas, our message to boaters is to avoid heading out until conditions stabilise due to the dangerous mix of fast moving and submerged debris and hazards along with missing navigation markers," Mr Mitchell said.

"Boating without knowing the location of potentially damaging hazards is dangerous and large logs and smaller boats which have come loose from moorings are reportedly travelling in the quickly moving flood waters.

"When it is safe to do so, Roads and Maritime Services Boating Safety Officers will work to reinstate any navigation aids such as buoys which have washed out of location."

Members of the community who notice a navigation aid is damaged or washed out of position should call Roads and Maritime on 13 12 36 on weekdays between 8.30am and 5pm or on weekends from 8.30am to 4.30pm.
