Waterskiers on the Murray land new boat ramp

More water skiers — from beginners to the world’s fastest racers — will be able to get on the mighty Murray with the revamped Mildura boat ramp now ready for action.

Minister for Sport John Eren recently opened the upgraded Mildura and District Ski Club boat ramp, made possible by a $35,000 grant from the Victorian Government.

The new concrete ramp replaces an old ramp that was more than 40-years old. It means more powerboats can be launched from the riverbank, allowing more people to get out onto the water.

It’s also a major boost to the Mildura and District Ski Club’s annual Mildura 100 — known as the fastest ski race in the world — and the Ted Hurley Classic.

A modern and safer boat ramp with better access to the river will see these major events go from strength to strength, and continue to attract thousands of visitors and competitors to Mildura each year, while creating jobs and boosting the local economy.

Minister for Sport John Eren said the State government is giving more people the chance to get out on the mighty Murray and make a splash in the sports they love.

"This new boat ramp will help the Mildura District Ski Club grow and welcome more members, while bringing even more tourists to the region."  

Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp was pretty stoked about the ramp too.

"This popular club hosts some of the world’s most thrilling water skiing action — and we’re building the facilities they need to continue this proud tradition for many years to come."
