Community-based WA cruising guide updated for 2023
More than 150 changes made to Western Australia’s free must-have cruising guideA ‘crowdsourced’ guide to some of Western Australia’s premier destinations, and recognised as the state’s unofficial cruising bible, has had a big makeover.
Fremantle Sailing Club’s cruising section has launched an updated version of its cruising guide to Western Australia featuring more than 150 changes made to the previous version.
, which improves on the version last released in March 2021, includes more than 600 pages, diagrams showing how to safely navigate unsurveyed anchorages, and colour photos.
According to the club, the first part of the guide is dedicated to weather, tides, passage planning, communications, emergency services, marine animals and government departments.
“The second part contains specific pilotage information on many anchorages, showing suitable spots to anchor, dangers, the amount of protection, tidal information, places of interest, history of the area, and local contact details,” it said.
The free guide is available for download as either a PDF or as an ePub file that can be read as an electronic book on a number of handheld devices such as iPads and Kindles, or via Kobo-enabled devices.
Users can also print out the guide at home before embarking on a voyage
Anyone who cannot download a copy of the guide can buy a folder-bound A4 print-out from Fremantle Sailing Club via phoning (08) 9435 8800 or sending an email to reception@fsc.com.au.
