Volvo Penta’s recreational marine engine rebuild program, which overhauls old engines to make them like new again, has expanded to include the D4, D6, D8 and D13 engine range as well as the entire Inboard Performance System (IPS) range.
The reconditioned engines, which will be rebuilt on the same lines as Volvo Penta uses to build its new powerplants, will allow boat owners to choose a like-new powerplant that will be covered under the same parts warranty as a new engine.
The remanufactured engines reuse up to 60.0 per cent of the original parts, as well as saving 56.0 per cent of the carbon dioxide emissions associated with building an engine from new.
Volvo Penta global product manager Roland Henriksson said choosing to remanufacture an engine was now straightforward with fast and easy-to-install solutions available via a call, click, or email.
“Whether you're a company looking to ensure maximised vessel uptime or a leisure boater ensuring your long-planned voyage proceeds smoothly, we now offer our largest selection of remanufactured engines and drivelines, good available from stock and ready for deployment in days," he said.
Volvo Penta already offers reconditioning as an engine update option to D8 pre-EVC 2.0 and D13 engine owners, as well as a wide range of remanufactured longblocks and partially refurbished engines for D3, D4, D6 and D11.
Volvo Penta says the option of reconditioning engines also extends the lifespan of the vessels that they power.
“The offer represents the best quality replacement outside of a new engine … the turnaround is faster, and all remanufactured components stay updated and are modified to a technically improved design.
“Customers will benefit from enhanced uptime, as the remanufactured engines and drivelines are readily available for delivery from our warehouses.
“Additionally, installations are streamlined and quicker, due to being direct replacements.”
Under the reconditioning process, the engines and Volvo Penta IPS drives are broken down into thier components before being cleaned and inspected.
All reused parts are returned to like-new condition before being tested and verified. These components are then used to rebuild engines and Volvo Penta IPS drives held in stock.
Once rebuilt, the engine ir IPS drive is tested to ensure it meets the original specifications and delivers the reliability, durability and performance that Volvo Penta customers expect.
Volvo Penta’s standard 12-month warranty covers all remanufactured parts.
If the engine or IPS drive is supplied and installed by an authorised Volvo Penta dealer, the warranty extends to 24 months or 600 hours for recreational use, or 3000 hours for commercial use.
Volvo Penta’s warranty protection will cover the labour needed to fit the replacement parts.
