Volvo Penta sales up in 2007

Sweden's Volvo Group has reported that net sales for its marine division Volvo Penta rose by nine per cent in 2007 compared to 2006

The division generated SEK (Swedish krona) 11,719 million of net sales in 2007 compared to SEK 10,774 million in 2006, and sold 67,333 marine engines in 2007, up from 66,615 in 2006.

Its largest market was Europe, followed by North America and Asia.

Volvo's IPS drive system achieved 'continued success', although the marine engine market generally was reported to have been 'slightly down'.

Volvo Penta also announced plans for 2008, including establishing a new dealer network structure, and introducing more services and soft products.

The marine division represents four per cent of Volvo Group's net sales and five per cent of its operating income for 2007.

With 3000 employees, Volvo Penta claims to be the world's largest producer of diesel engines for leisure boats. The brand has around 5000 dealers in 130 countries.
