One of three new models for Viking during the 2015 model year, the 52 ST (Sport Tower) project is quickly moving along and on schedule for the boat's launch and inaugural appearance at the Viking Yacht Dealer Meeting in September.
The 52 ST will draw on the company’s popular and excellent-running 52 Convertible hull, but then breaks new ground in its class with an exciting and eye-catching cockpit and command bridge layout crowned with a sleek and stylish three-sided fibreglass deckhouse.
The standard layout features three staterooms with a huge master suite forward and two staterooms to starboard. The galley down on the port side with stacks of storage and refrigeration for long fishing adventures.
The foredeck and deckhouse component is currently in build as shown in the accompanying photos. When this unit is completed, a highly polished overhead liner will add a finishing touch and also incorporate locking rod stowage to keep fishing tackle secure yet close at hand, similar to what Viking did with the 42 ST.
The company’s $1 million five-axis profiler was used to build the plugs for the moulds for this new model, including the single unit that creates the cockpit and the command bridge deck. The profiler easily defines the mezzanine, seating, and in-deck fish boxes in absolute detail.
The cockpit and command bridge deck mould is strikingly complex, we’re told, yet the details are discernible when visualised right side up.
The Viking 52 ST will have its world's premiere at the 2014 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
