Greenpeace has released video of Spanish navy RIBS deliberately crashing into its boats during a peaceful protest in the Canary Islands on Saturday (November 15).
As a result of the collisions, one Greenpeace member was thrown overboard and injured. She can be seen in the accompanying video being rescued. She was transferred to hospital with a broken leg and lacerations. Two other activists were also injured during the skirmish.
Greenpeace Spain's video description said: "The naval vessels have repeatedly rammed the Greenpeace inflatables and as a result there has been falling over the side of one of the activists, who received two cuts and suffered a fracture."
The 23-year-old Italian national was taken to hospital in Las Palmas following the incident.
Saturday's events also saw Greenpeace boats damaged.
The activists were operating from the mother ship Arctic Sunrise at the time of the incident and Greenpeace maintains the protest was a peaceful one.
Whether you are for or against this type of protest, as the video shows, the actions of the Spanish Navy were extremely dangerous. We wonder what ever happened to COLREGS?
