Victorian marine legend bows out

Marina and restaurant go on the market

After nearly 30 years running the Anchorage Marina and restaurant at the mouth of Melbourne's Yarra River, Terry and Margaret O'Hare have decided to retire and go sailing.

Terry, who turns 76 this year, has entered next year's Around Australia race and wants the time to prepare.

He has been involved in the marine industry in one way or another for more than 40 years. He has built boats, operated the Southern Hemisphere's largest seaplane fleet, and owned restaurants, marinas and boat sales business in Victoria and Queensland.

However he rates the reconstruction of the Anchorage Marina in 2005 as a modern floating facility with 90 berths as his career highlight. He has also recently had plans approved for the development of the nearby Knights Slipway into a boutique marine centre.

To help fund his new lifestyle, Terry has decided to offer for sale by expressions of interest the Anchorage Marina and restaurant, along with the Knights development. He says he is seeking either an interested partner or outright sale of both properties.

The Anchorage Marina boasts 95 per cent permanent occupancy. The Knights site has approved permits to construct a 5000 square metre building on its waterfront site.

More details of the sale can be obtained from Scott Callow at CB Richard Ellis Real Estate.
