The Victorian Government has reopened Dartmouth Pondage to recreational fishing for the first time since 2013.
Located in the state's north-east, the area was recently stocked with 20,000 trout to accelerate the growth of the fishery and attract anglers back to the impoundment.
Previously the region was renowned for its prize trout, which grew to around three kilograms.
Dartmouth Pondage was reopened to fishing last week under the banner of the Victorian Government's Target One Million plan, in which $46 million is being invested to give recreational fishing a major boost.
The scheme has also seen stocks replenished in Victorian fishing hotspots such as Lake Toolonda and through Gippsland, among other regions, with the millions of fish released spanning several species.
Victoria's Minister for Water, Lisa Neville, said the reopening of Dartmouth Pondage to fishing represented a major win for both the fishing fraternity and local residents alike.
"We're ensuring water corporations, where possible and practicable, use our storages to provide recreational opportunities for locals and visitors – like great fishing at Dartmouth Pondage," she said.
