Kimberley coast charter operator chooses Mercury powerOperating in some of the world’s best fishing waters, off Western Australia’s Kimberley Coast, Kurt Williamson rarely has a day off.
The experienced fishing guide says that avid sportfishers from across Australia and as far away as South Africa have Kurt out on the water an average of 320 days a year chasing barra, billfish, sailfish and marlin.
Kurt says he not only relies on his skill, talent and 15 years of experience, but the amazing reliability of his Mercury Verado outboards.
"I can’t afford for my engines to let me down, which is why I have been a loyal Mercury man my whole life," said Kurt.
Kurt owns and operates Barraddict Sportfishing Charters out of Broome, offering a wide range of options from whale watching right through to heli-fishing which gives visitors access to the most remote spots on the coast.
"Sportfishing is the heart of the business though," Kurt said. "I take out small groups and show them some great fishing," he said.
Kurt has two boats. Powered by a pair of 300hp Verados, Rare Breed III is a 10m sportfishing 'weapon' for hard core anglers chasing sailfish off Broome. It also takes whale-watchers out to see the big units swim past Eco Beach. Barraddict is a custom-designed 6.4m Eliminator guide pro with a huge cast deck for working lures at snags and sight casting at bait schools.
"I’ve just put a new 200 Verado on Barraddict which is the third Verado she’s had," Kurt said. "My policy is to replace them at between 1600 and 1800 hours even though I’ve never had an issue. I’ve always had Verados and they’ve always been good to me."
For Kurt having reliable engines is vital because he can’t let down customers who’ve travelled from far and wide to experience the best of the Kimberley.
Kurt also appreciates Mercury’s great support network that helps keep his Verados in peak condition.
"The guys at Derby 4X4 and Marine are always there which is invaluable," he said.
