The Variety Splash is a three-day regatta which will run from Thursday 23rd to Sunday 26th February 2012 taking the boats with over 300 participants, around Port Phillip and Corio Bay. Visiting some of Victoria's best yacht clubs and marinas including Sandringham Yacht Club, Royal Geelong Yacht Club, Queenscliff Harbour and Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, this fun-filled adventure is open to power and sail boats of all shapes and sizes.
Celebrating its fifth year, the Variety Splash 2012 is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever. A record fund-raising target of over $100,000 has been set and the 'Splashers' have definitely accepted the challenge.
The Variety Splash is an annual event similar to the infamous Variety Bash, where the focus is all about having fun on the water. As with all Variety events, the Splash too has a serious side, its primary objective is to raise much needed funds to help empower Victorian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to live, laugh and learn.
"We are really excited about the preparations for the fifth Variety Splash. With more sail and power boats entered year to date and corporate sponsorship from Watters Electrical, Club Marine and Procaffe among others, we are well on our way to exceeding our fundraising target for Variety," said Splash event manager Jav Greaves.
Jo Arrowsmith, mother of William, one of Variety’s special HeartKids who has been lucky enough to take part in two Variety Splash events, said: "Thanks for all the wonderful work that Variety do in raising funds for children like William and other important community needs. It is such an important thing for so many different people and also for William who will require several major heart surgeries through his life; it is a nice way to get out and forget about those things such as hospital visits and tests."
Getting involved in the Variety Splash is easy -- all you need is a team or group of friends who are willing to raise funds, and willing to have three days of fun on the water at a fantastic event.
