More than 50 Personal Water Craft (PWCs) have already signed up to the 2014 ‘Ride the Tide’ Yamaha Variety Jet Trek -- an action-packed adventure that kick starts next February. However, positions are still available to join this great charity ride-and-drive.
Event organisers, Variety – the Children’s Charity of Queensland, is calling for any would-be PWC enthusiasts, long-time jetski experts or anyone in between to contact the Variety Queensland office for more information about this six-day adventure that raises money for kids in need.
The Yamaha Variety Jet Trek is now in its 16th year, with the fun on the water, great locations travelled and fundraising efforts, listed as the reasons people keep coming back.
Every jetski that is on the water is followed by a road crew tracing along the coast line, loading the skis on and off the water at each overnight stop, making this event a great chance to get a group of mates or the family together to share the time on the water and in the car.
The trek will commence in Port Macquarie on Monday February 24, travel over 600km north over six days, to arrive in the Sunshine Coast for the finale on Saturday March 1.
Participants will travel through towns and communities, visiting children and schools along the way and providing equipment, services and experiences to children who need it most. Towns include: Coffs Harbour, Nambucca Heads, Wooli, Yamba, Ulmarra, Ballina, Kingscliff, Jacobs Well, Brisbane, Bribie Island and the Sunshine Coast.
The 2013 Yamaha Variety Jet Trek, which started in Cooktown, battled against cyclonic conditions but was not enough to dampen the spirits of 60 Trekkers who collectively raised over $150,000 for kids in need.
Every Trekker must raise a minimum, fully tax-deductable donation of $2000 in order to participate in the event, as well as a $55 application fee and a provisions levy that is set closer to the date. Variety is on hand to offer advice and guidance to participants with their fundraising events that can vary from raffles, to barbeques, karaoke nights and bowls days.
