Used-boat warranty heads for NSW

The industry-leading BIA Dealer Certified Used Boat Warranty program has been officially endorsed by the Boating Industry Association of NSW.

This means that the consumers purchasing a used boat in NSW have the added peace of mind and security that their boat will be covered by a comprehensive 50 Point Safety Check plus a Used Boat Warranty from specialist boat insurer, Nautilus Marine.

The Used Boat Warranty provides complete peace of mind to families who purchase a used boat or PWC from a participating BIA marine dealer. Under this program consumers are assured that they are not buying someone else’s problem boat.

According to Roy Privett, General Manager of BIA NSW, the new program adds significantly to the suite of consumer benefits in buying a used boat from a BIA member.

"This is a brilliant new program that delivers confidence and added safety to the purchasers of used boats," said Roy Privett.

"Thanks to the mandatory 50 Point Safety Check, consumers can be assured that the used boat they are buying from a participating BIA marine dealer is in good seaworthy condition. This offers excellent peace of mind."

"The added benefit is the Used Boat Warranty. In the event of a failure with the boat, motor or trailer, the customer is further protected. The overall package provides the best protection possible for used boat purchasers."

With the BIA of NSW now signing on for the program, the Used Boat Warranty program is now fully endorsed by the Boating Industry Associations in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.

Nautilus Marine CEO Lyndon Turner said that acceptance of the Used Boat Warranty program by the biggest BIA in Australia has been a very welcome addition.

"There are in excess of 60 BIA marine retailers who sell trailer boats in NSW," Lyndon Turner said.

"While participation in this program voluntary for BIA members, we are confident that the uptake amongst dealers will be very high. This program delivers safety on the water and security of purchase for those purchasing a used boat."

The warranty covers a broad range of parts and components. Included in the cover is the outboard engine from the gearcase right the way through to the flywheel and everything in-between. On the boat itself, instruments, wiring, windscreen, steering and fuel system are all covered and with the trailer the winch, wheel bearings and coupling are included.
