We’ve seen plenty of boat-carrying caravans and campers over the years – the Extreme Outback Curlew one of the more recent – but few that can carry a complete boat trailer onboard like the Aussie Boat Camp trailer which was launched recently.
The benefits of the two-in-one camper include being able to unhitch and head fishing with the boat in tow, not long after setting up camp, as well as not having the hassle of trying to get a tinny off the roof.
On display recently at the Lismore Outdoor Leisure Show in NSW, the unique Aussie Boat Camp trailer brings together the expertise of various businesses, including Stessl boats, Honda outboard engines, Redco Trailers and Jawa camper trailers.
About the size of a small caravan or hybrid camper in transit, the Aussie Boat Camp trailer houses a Stessl 4.3 Warrior aluminium boat, complete with outboard and trailer, within the confines of its hard-wall body.
At camp, it then opens up, using a number of marine actuators, to reveal a pontoon-style upper level, which is reached via a built-in staircase. The upper level on the prototype is covered by an optional polycarbonate roof, with a pop-up kitchen unit and TV down one end.
There’s also room upstairs for a portable dining table, and the fold-out, roof-top-style tent down the other end houses a double bed, with a separate canvas section for a portable toilet and shower.
Priced from $58,000, the Aussie Boat Camper prototype has a Tare weight of 1800kg, with a 200kg payload for water and luggage.
However, each Aussie Boat Camper trailer is custom built, so depending on buyers' interests there's the option to accommodate race cars, go-karts, ATVs, dirt bikes or even horses in the undercover ‘garage’.
There are also optional add-ons available, including aluminium enclosed folded walls or clear storm sides for the top deck, a Waeco fridge, and 240 watt solar system.
There’s also a tandem axle 2500kg version available that allows for 800kg of luggage, or a larger 3500kg trailer suitable for bigger boats.
